See the Illinois Building Where Dairy Queen was Born 85 Years Ago

It started out as an idea born from a cow - quite literally. What has become Dairy Queen began in a small Illinois building that still stands today although now it serves a completely different purpose.

Did you know that Dairy Queen was born in Joliet, Illinois back in 1938? Only In Your State just shared some interesting history about the building where all the ice cream joy began. That led me to a journey a YouTuber took to the building in Joliet that you can still see today, but you (hopefully) won't be getting ice cream there.

It's now occupied by an insurance place.

He noted that there are still multiple signs that reflect the ice cream history that began in this place.

Humble beginnings for what is now a nationally famous ice cream brand. The sidewalk sign remembers though.

He also mentions that the Blizzard wasn't created until 1985. I can't believe that I forgot a part of ice cream history. Disappointing.

I wonder if the insurance place is even in the building anymore as this video captured just days ago appears to show it vacant. At least it's a nice ice cream white shade now.

Roadside America has some more history about the Joliet, Illinois beginnings of Dairy Queen. They disagree with the 1938 date from Only In Your State though claiming the first store opened in 1940. Can't we all just get along?
