Missouri Proudly Has Two of America’s Oldest Ice Cream Shops
Missouri is full of history and that includes the delicious topic of ice cream. The Show Me State happens to have two ice cream shops who have been serving for longer than nearly any others in America and one is a place you might not be as familiar with.
When you talk about history and ice cream in Missouri, you probably think about Ted Drewes in St. Louis and you'd be right
Ted Drewes Frozen Custard was the first place mentioned in Cheapism's new oldest ice cream shops in America since Ted's started serving in 1931, but there's another St. Louis area ice cream place that dates back further by almost two decades.
This is Crown Candy Kitchen which began as an ice cream shop on St. Louis Avenue in St. Louis in 1913. If you're a history buff, you know that was a year before World War I began. By the way, Crown Candy Kitchen has what they call the "5 Malt Challenge" which means if you can 5 malts or shakes in 30 minutes, you get them free and you get a t-shirt and your name added to their wall of winners. You can't hurl during that 30 minutes or go to the bathroom and no one can help you, but it's an opportunity to gain ice cream immortality from one of the most historic ice cream places in America.
