If you've been into a Missouri or Illinois Target store over the past few months, you've no doubt seen many new items that are now locked up behind glass cases. New efforts are apparently working to help greatly reduce theft in their stores.

Interesting article from CNN about how Target says they are "winning the war on shoplifting". We shared a few weeks ago some of the new methods that Illinois Target stores have taken in an effort to increase profits and reduce the access thieves have to the most-desired items. Some of the items shoplifters are taking would blow your mind.

The CNN article quotes the executives at Target as saying that they are ahead of where they thought they'd be when it comes to reducing stealing in their stores. The word used is "shrink" which includes more than shoplifting. It has to do with expired items and anything else that either has been stolen or is no longer sellable. Targets in Missouri and Illinois are included in the numbers that the executives say are doing a great job with "shrink".

Improved training about security for store employees and many items being locked behind glass before purchase are apparently winning the day as brick and mortar retail tries to stay competitive with online sellers and take in more money than is being taken from them.
