Missouri Faces Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding Risk Tonight
The weather forecasters are warning much of Missouri that today and tonight is likely to be a wet one. Locally heavy rain with a risk of flash flooding will impact much of the state today starting this afternoon, but is especially likely tonight.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri put out a special weather statement today (Wednesday) saying that storm development is expected starting in the next few hours. The good news is they don't expect the storms to become especially severe although some damaging wind is possible. The real threat is rain and lots of it. This map shows the areas in Missouri where the worst of the rain is expected.
There are two different time frames that the NWS says to watch. The northern half of Missouri could see heavy rain starting this afternoon while the southern regions should expect rain that could train together in a line that could make localized flooding a risk.
My understanding from the National Weather Service outlook is that the flooding is not expected to be life-threatening across a wide area, but it's always dangerous to try and drive over a flooded roadway. It's yet another day in Missouri where you need to be weather-aware and have multiple ways to get severe weather warnings when/if they are issued by the National Weather Service.
