10 Illinois Cities Where Women Face the Highest Crime Risk

There is no crime that isn't awful, but I would argue that violations against women are among the worst. That's why the latest crime data matters that reveals the places in Illinois where women specifically face the greatest risk.

As the father of daughters, this is the one crime survey that concerns me the most. Instead of relying on just one database, I decided to query databases from SafeHome, SafeWise and OpenCrime. The following metrics were factored in to decide the most dangerous cities and towns for Illinois:

• Violent crime rate
• Rape rate
• Murder rate
• Aggravated-assault rate
• Robbery rate
• Domestic/family violence evidence where available
• Stalking/sexual-offense indicators where available
• Recent crime trajectory

Let's be clear that just because these Illinois cities are on the danger list doesn't mean the entire area is a problem. Every city and town in Illinois has safe and dangerous places and it's not uncommon for pockets in the inner city to have high crime rates while outer suburbs are very safe. That's why it's important to do your homework about the places to avoid and those that are OK. It's especially vital for the women in our lives who often fall victim to the worst types of crime. We all need to do better.
