It would be a good idea to be weather aware if you live in Missouri on Tuesday as much of the state is in the crosshairs for potential strong storms that are expected to be packing damaging wind and large hail.

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has just issued an advisory that places much of Missouri under an area that's expected to be impacted by storms that will have damaging winds. The highest risk region covers the northern half of the state.

Hail, some of which could be quite large, is also expected to be a part of these storms. The NOAA Storm Prediction Center issued a separate map where the largest hail could hit.

Here are the exact words from the meteorologists from the Storm Prediction Center:

"Severe thunderstorms capable of large hail and damaging wind gusts are expected Tuesday afternoon/evening across parts of the central Plains and toward the Lower Missouri/Mid-Mississippi Valley"

I asked my own resident meteorologist (my wife) what she expects Tuesday. She said that if there are storms in Missouri during the morning hours, that should lessen the more serious storm development during the afternoon hours. If there is sunshine in the morning, watch out because that will give the atmosphere more fuel for storm development. If you see storms Tuesday morning, that's good news. If not, watch out for what's coming later in the day.
