These Explorers Went Inside an Abandoned Illinois Clock Tower

It's been called one of the most endangered abandoned buildings in Illinois. It's a historic clock tower that many are trying to preserve and now there's a new look at what remains inside just revealed by urban explorers.

This is another nice find by the obsoleteVoids YouTube channel. They've taken a look inside the Central Manufacturing District Clock Tower located at 2000 W. Pershing Road in the Chicago area. It was built in 1917 by Samuel Scott Joy and it's a rare glimpse at Late Gothic Revival/Industrial Gothic building design from the early 20th century. Preservation Chicago calls it one of the 7 most endangered buildings in the city.

During their exploration, they showed what it looks like along the stairwells that are now more than a century old. Might want to watch your step as those stairs don't look very sturdy.

Their team even managed to see what the world looks like from the top of the clock tower. That's quite a view of the Chicago skyline in the distance.

One of the reasons why I sometimes share explorations by that YouTube channel is they never damage anyplace they investigate and they warn everyone who watches to observe all the local laws and to never attempt anything they do in their explorations. I'm also hopeful that spreading the word about this historic clock tower in Illinois will encourage efforts to support the preservation of it. You'll rarely see another building quite like it that has such a rich history. Would be a shame for it to fade into the annals of history.
