That Fun Time a Missouri Town Was Nearly Taken Over by Alligators
You can't have an alligator in Missouri at least legally. That didn't stop one man who tried to make sure the entire population of a small town in the bootheel had a chance to own one of these potentially vicious predators.
Thank you to Cracked for the laugh that I needed today. It's the true story of a man from Florida who was an alligator salesman. Based on a link they shared, I believe the Riverfront Times reported on this fun episode of bootheel lifestyle back in 2012.
Let's summarize what went down. This Florida man shows up in little ole Kennett, Missouri the hometown of Sheryl Crow. He has teeny tiny baby alligators and he's selling them. The residents (at least some of them) apparently thought the tiny gators were adorable and started buying them. This presented a problem. Eventually little alligators become big alligators. Whoops.
This led to a city-wide effort to "roundup" all the alligators in Kennett, Missouri. Think I'm dreaming this up? KFVS reported on this big gator party back in 2012, too.
Let's have an alligator refresher, shall we? It's illegal to have gators in Missouri. That being said, to my friends in the bootheel...please never stop being you. Our entertainment would be greatly reduced without the decisions you constantly make.
