As we shared this week, the hazy appearance of the sun and milky conditions of the sky overall are due to wildfire smoke that has drifted southward from wildfires still burning in Alberta, Canada.

According to Firesmoke.ca, this is the expected wildfire smoke expected to blanket much of Missouri and Illinois on Thursday.

The forecast shows that the more intense smoke levels are expected by midday on Friday.

At the moment, this is not really adversely affecting our air quality in Missouri and Illinois as AirNow.gov shows only slightly degraded levels as of Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

It would be a good idea to keep an eye on the air quality index by Friday once the more intense wildfire smoke levels increase over Missouri and Illinois. At the very least, you're likely to continue to see hazy conditions and a "milky" sky for the next few days.
