Today marks the first day of Spring or the day that the Vernal Equinox occurs. After 96  long winter days, I think everyone is ready for Spring to arrive. The Latin word Vernal means “occurring in spring” and the word Equinox means “equal night”. So in essence, days and nights are approximately equal everywhere and the Sun rises and sets due east and west.

Of course when spring arrives in the Northern Hemisphere, autumn begins in the Southern Hemisphere. In case you are wondering, the official arrival of Spring today is at 11:30 p.m. CDT.
