A favorite downtown Hannibal business announced their closure until further notice.

Dutch Country General Store took to social media yesterday to announce its closure until further notice. The post goes on to say "We are grateful to our staff and valued customers for their support over the past four years."

No other additional information was given as to the reason for the closure, and it's unsure if the store will ever reopen. The Dutch Country General Store, located at 305 N Main Street in Hannibal opened in October of 2020 with their free ice cream cones, toys, various food times, and my favorite taffy. Bins and bins of taffy, that is what I am going to miss the most.

I hope two things will come from this. One, the store will somehow find a way to reopen its doors and find a way to come back to the downtown area. Or two, if they are closed for good someone will have an amazing idea for that space and reopen the doors to something new and different.

Either way, the downtown Hannibal area would benefit from it. I just hope the building doesn't just sit there empty./. Time will tell what happens. This is a developing story and we will keep you updated as information comes in.
