See What’s Included in Missouri’s Tax Free Weekend in August
There's a chance to save some big time bucks when Missouri begins its annual back-to-school sales tax holiday in August. It's important to know what is included and what isn't for this 3-day event.
According to the Missouri Department of Revenue website, the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01am on Friday, August 4 and continue through midnight on Sunday, August 6, 2023. This includes both local and state sales taxes which means the following items are exempt during those 3 days. Here are the specifics provided by the Missouri Department of Revenue:
- Clothing – any article having a taxable value of $100 or less
- School supplies – not to exceed $50 per purchase
- Computer software – taxable value of $350 or less
- Personal computers – not to exceed $1,500
- Computer peripheral devices – not to exceed $1,500
- Graphing calculators - not to exceed $150
It's worth noting that many gaming laptops will qualify for the sales tax holiday in Missouri as long as they don't cost more than $1,500. I'm not saying that a grown adult like myself who should be mature enough to not play video games would ever do such a thing, but just throwing that information out there.
In defense of my gaming work laptop needs, many people who produce videos for school or work need a dedicated video card in the system, so if you have that need, this is the weekend in Missouri you want to buy a desktop or laptop as that could easily save you a hundred bucks.
Make sure to check the Missouri Department of Revenue website for specifics before the tax-free weekend begins on August 4, 2023.
