Illinois Suddenly in the Danger Zone for Strong Storms Next Week
If you don't like the weather in Illinois, wait 10 minutes because it's almost guaranteed to change. That has proven true yet again as all of Illinois is now in the danger zone for strong storm development again next week.
We already had a warning from meteorologists about Missouri having a chance of severe storms on Monday. Now, Illinois has been welcomed to the stormy party a day later.
Kudos to internet weather personality Ryan Hall for the catch on this one as he noticed that the NOAA Storm Prediction Center had expanded their outlook for severe weather next week to now include Illinois. This is what Tuesday, April 29, 2025 looks like for storm possibilities in Illinois.
Why is Illinois now in the warned area for potential severe storm development?
The weather nerds at NOAA say "strong forcing atop a broad warm sector ahead of an eastward advancing cold front will continue to support severe potential". I asked my wife for the human non-meteorologist translation of what they're trying to say and she said the short answer is the jet stream winds, moisture, low pressure and wind shear variables look likely to combine for strong thunderstorms in most of Illinois next Tuesday, if not all of the state. She did add that there is less certainty from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center about severe storms on Tuesday than there are for Monday. Still, it bears watching and being weather aware (again) for Tuesday in Illinois.
