Illinois Driver Captures Strange Triangle of Lights in the Sky

I'm not trying to be a wise guy when I say that seeing odd things when you're driving on Illinois interstates is...well, normal. However, a new report from an eyewitness driving down Illinois 15 has reported seeing a strange triangle of lights in the sky and he has the photos to prove it.

This new report submitted to the National UFO Reporting Center says this close encounter of the Illinois kind happened in the early evening hours on July 28, 2026 at around 8:42pm near Belleville, Illinois. The eyewitness report said this:

"Triangle of orange lights faded away then reappeared to the south. While driving eastbound on Illinois 15 we saw a triangle of orange lights. It lasted about 5-10 minutes. It appeared shortly after we passed the shrine and it slowly faded away. When we took the exit at Il 158 it reappeared slightly more south."

This eyewitness shared two pictures they snapped of the odd light formation that you can see for yourself. I asked my wife, the meteorologist, if there are any atmospheric conditions that can explain lights like this and she mentioned the possibility of high clouds reflecting sunlight, but added that would be rare.

By definition, this is an unidentified flying object near Belleville, Illinois as I have yet to see any confirmations from nearby Scott Air Force Base of any military plane or drone activity that would explain the strange lights this driver witnessed.
