Confidence Growing Missouri in for Heavy Snow Event this Weekend
There are still questions about exactly what type of weather will impact Missouri this weekend, but confidence is growing that a majority of the state is likely to experience a heavy snow event.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis is warning to prepare for the worst this weekend in Missouri and there is increasing agreement that at least some if not most of Missouri will get a direct hit of heavy snow. Before I show what the latest models say, let's begin with the statement from the National Weather Service itself about what is known and what is not at this stage about the incoming weekend winter storm.
What do the new runs of the computer models show for Missouri's winter storm?
Max Velocity on YouTube just shared the GFS model runs which show snow will begin Sunday morning across most of Missouri. It also looks like the southern part of the state will see freezing rain and/or ice.
The darker blue areas are heavy snow bands and as the storm moves across Missouri, it looks like most of the state is in the path for this thing.
What we don't know about the winter storm for Missouri
We don't know the exact path or the amount of snow Missouri can expect to see. The position of that low pressure will likely tell the tale. Even with the unknowns (and there are many), take the advice of the National Weather Service and prepare for the worst case scenario and have a backup plan if travel across the state is necessary on Sunday and carrying over into Monday.
I would expect you'll see an official forecast and potentially warnings from the National Weather Service possibly as early as Thursday, January 2, 2025.
