Today marked a rather rare weather event in Iowa. A wide tornado made its way across the central part of the state today in one of the earliest twisters on record for this time of year.

Nick Stewart is a meteorologist in Iowa who was chasing a tornado as it moved through Williamsburg. As you'll see in Nick's video, it was a wide twister.

KCCI in Iowa also shared video from these tornadic storms today. There's no report as of this writing if any of these tornadoes caused any damage.

On his Facebook page, Nick added how historic this Iowa tornado was today.

Storm Shelter Sofia shared more data on how rare tornadoes are in Iowa during January. It appears that this is one of the only January twisters in Iowa for the past 40 years.
