Missouri I-70 Corridor Braces for Locally Heavy Rain

There's good news and bad news about the incoming weather in Missouri Wednesday. The good news is the state will begin to get a break from the heat. The bad news is it will happen because of locally heavy rainfall that is targeting the I-70 corridor and could make travel tricky later today.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis just issued this update about incoming rain that is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon. Pay special attention to the darker green area on their map. That is the region where locally heavy rainfall is expected. The strongest storms with the most moisture are expected straight across the state blanketing I-70.

The NOAA Storm Prediction Center agrees and has all of Missouri in the region where rain is expected Wednesday and especially the southern part of the state

Here's the exact wording of the advisory from the National Weather Service in St. Louis, Missouri today:

"Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible between 4 and 9 pm this afternoon and this evening. These storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts to 60 mph."

This is typical Missouri end-of-summer weather. Begin the day with heat which gets interrupted by light rain which develops into heavy rain with strong winds. This just makes me even more ready for Fall weather to begin.
