The Salvation Army will again this year distribute electric fans to those in need. The program will begin today, June 3, and fans will be distributed in both Quincy and Hannibal as they are available. Currently, a limited number of fans are available. Fan distribution will be prioritized for people over the age of 65, those with children under 5 years of age, and those who are disabled.

Persons applying for fans should bring a photo ID with them to their local Salvation Army Family Services Center. For those with children under 5 years of age in the household, a Social Security card or medical card is also required.

In Quincy, the Family Services Center is located at 501 Broadway. Hannibal residents should apply at the Family Services Center at 200 Steamboat Bend Shopping Center in Hannibal. The hours at both locations are Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Fans will only be distributed while supplies last. Donations of new and gently used fans are needed now and throughout the summer. Donated fans may be dropped off at either Salvation Army Family Services Center in Quincy or Hannibal, or the Kroc Center in Quincy.

Monetary donations for purchase of fans are also much needed and may be sent to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 75, Quincy, IL, 62306. Please designate donations as “Fan Program - Hannibal” or “Fan Program - Quincy”. Should there be a need for emergency housing, The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter can be contacted at (217) 222-8655.

In addition to the fan program, The Kroc Center, 405 Vermont, will be available as a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week on days when heat advisories are issued for our area, for those who need to get out of the extreme heat.
