Navy Pier in Chicago is Closing Early
Chicago's Iconic Navy Pier is closing early in 2020, time is running out to visit.
Chicago has grown into one of the biggest tourist destinations in the United States over the past decade, tourism is one of the biggest industries in the city of Chicago, and at the heart of tourism of The Second City is the iconic Navy Pier. Well as COVID-19 has swept through the United States tourism has declined massively, and in order to help prevent the spread of the virus Navy Pier is closing early in 2020.
According to ABC 7 Chicago the Historic Tourist attraction Navy Pier will be closing after Labor Day for the remainder of 2020, on their website they say...
"Navy Pier announced Tuesday that after Labor Day, the iconic tourist attraction will fully shutdown for the remainder of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Pier hopes to reopen in spring 2021 but has not announced a firm reopening date...Navy Pier reopened June 10. From that day through August 16, Navy Pier said it welcomed about 500,000 visitors. That's significantly down from the roughly four million people who visited over the same stretch last year, according to the Pier."

As a born and raised Chicagoan it pains me to see this, especially because Navy Pier has changed from a purely tourist attraction to a really fun, activity filled area for locals and tourists alike over the past couple years. I certainly wont be getting to spend much time in Chicago in 2020, which means I may take a 2 week vacation there in 2020.
