We're entering the prime time of the year for travel getaways. Illinois has one of the most diverse selections of destinations in America which vary wildly from huge cityscapes to remote wilderness areas.

I vividly remember that when I was a kid my parents took me on a tour of all of Abraham Lincoln's historic sites in Illinois which included New Salem and, of course, Springfield. Seeing Lincoln's tomb has always been one of those life moments that has remained with me ever since. I'm not trying to sound like the state of Illinois tourism director, but there really are some compelling adventures no matter what type of getaway you're striving for.
