Missouri Issues Stern Warning about New Online Gambling Site Scam
The state of Missouri has become aware that many are being fooled by an online gambling website that is claiming something that it is not and many in the state are falling victim to this new scam.
I just saw this issue brought up on the Missouri sub-Reddit. It mentions a "nationwide gambling scam" that is now happening in Missouri. I found more details about what's going on from the Gaming America website. It's a stern warning from the Missouri Gaming Commission about an online gambling site that says it's regulated by the state being advertised on social media. There is no such thing.
Here's the statement shared by the Missouri Gaming Commission:
“Online casinos are illegal in Missouri. Any claims otherwise should be treated as highly suspicious. These scams not only put players at a financial risk, but they also undermine the integrity of Missouri’s regulated gaming industry."
The bottom line is Missouri has never (and likely will never) officially endorse the idea of online gaming in the state. Their concern is legitimate. If a Missouri resident gets taken by an online scammer portraying itself as a legitimate gambling site, there is very little to no recourse. The state does manage and regulate retail gambling facilities. If you see an online site saying it's OK in Missouri, it's lying to you and that's why this stern warning was just shared by the Missouri Gaming Commission.
