Video Captures Demolition of Hannibal’s St. Elizabeth’s Hospital

One of the most historic buildings in Hannibal, Missouri is coming down. St. Elizabeth's Hospital which has been abandoned for years is now in the process of being demolished and new drone video has captured the progress so far.

Big thank you to Jake Buckman who's a realtor for Century 21 to allow me to share new pics and video he's captured of the ongoing demolition of St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Hannibal, Missouri.

Thanks to Jake's nice drone work, you can see that the demolition crews are slowly but surely taking down this massive structure. You might recall that back in March, we shared an urban exploration of what remained inside of the building.

St. Elizabeth's Hospital was founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Maryville and opened in 1915 as a 35-bed facility. Additions were built in 1922, 1940, 1954, and 1973 until it merged with Levering Hospital in the late 1980s to become part of Hannibal Regional Hospital, with medical services moving to a new location in 1993. My understanding is the Hannibal City Council approved the $1.7 million dollar demolition with plans that the project would be complete by the end of 2026. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that this is the hospital I was born in...let's just say many many years ago. I know many in Hannibal who's genesis in life began within those walls. My grandmother was a nurse there at one time and it's hard to imagine Hannibal without this building. However, time moves on. We'll continue to share updates as the demolition of this special Hannibal place continues.
