Forecasters Warn Damaging Winds Could Hit Missouri on Wednesday

Hard to believe that summer is almost over. That doesn't mean the threat of severe weather is done with us yet as Missouri authorities are warning of a possible damaging wind event on Wednesday.

I have been keeping my eye on weather in the middle of the week because I need to mow my grass. The adulting struggle is real. I had seen mention of the possibility of severe weather, but it didn't really get my attention until I saw the Missouri Department of Public Safety issue this alert earlier today.

What does the National Weather Service say about the possibility of severe storms on Wednesday?

The National Weather Service in St. Louis confirms what the Department of Public Safety says. Their focus is on the northern half of Missouri where the risk is not as high as it is in the southern part of the state. A better look at the potential for storms comes from the NOAA Storm Prediction Center where their convective outlook shows extreme southern Missouri is in a much higher risk zone for storms and possible damaging wind.

The NOAA forecasters mention the environment in the Ozarks will include a large region of instability saying "storm mergers/outflow interactions and sufficient storm coverage, wind damage will be possible".

Note: this is now my admittedly non-scientific brain talking now. I don't expect a major storm event in Missouri on Wednesday, but I also don't want to downplay the possibility that it could happen. At the end of the day, trust official weather sources like the National Weather Service and be prepared to act if they issue severe weather warnings. That is possible over much of Missouri mid-week.
