Brave Dudes Hobby is Hanging Out with Missouri & Illinois Snakes
Some people make unique choices about how to spend their time. I'm not judging, but this is one I'm gonna take a hard pass on. Some brave individuals voluntarily decide to go spend quality time outside hanging out with snakes in Missouri and Illinois and many are venomous, too. I'm talking about the snakes, of course.
The hobby of Herping as defined by Wikipedia is a " the act of searching for amphibians or reptiles". To say this is an acquired taste for only a few brave people is an understatement. One of the more popular YouTube channels for this pastime is NKFherping. Just a few days ago, they shared video of a recent expedition saying:
A fantastic day in Illinois and Missouri with good company, and a slower day exploring sandy prairies of Missouri!
Let's go Herping or at least watch others...herp. (*ahem*)
You don't wanna mess with this big boy. This is a very venomous Copperhead.
This light-colored snake might look innocent, but this Timber Rattlesnake can put you in the E.R. quickly.
This harmless dude is a Blue Racer and like the name says is really a fast-mover.
It seems these guys like Milk Snakes - a lot.
This hobby isn't for everyone (understatement), but have to admire the knowledge that these guys possess about what snakes they're dealing with and how they can handle them. I highly recommend watching their full adventure as they show that what some of us refer to as "nope ropes" really can be better understood and even protected.
