Missouri Man Breaks Record by Capturing 47 Copperhead Snakes

A Missouri man has just set a record that no one else will ever want to break. He's just captured his 47th Copperhead snake in his yard this year and that number is likely to keep climbing.

I just came across this fascinating tale (no snake tail pun intended) shared by WRAL on YouTube that seems to be originally based on a report by KYTV via NBC Newschannel based on their video description. They say that Randy Dietz of Missouri has found very venomous Copperhead snakes in his yard for years, but he's OK with that.

Randy seems to be a gentle soul who isn't alarmed at the 47 Copperhead snakes that call his area home. He coexists with them. Whenever Randy sees one of his slithering friends in his yard, he captures them, measures the snakes and then takes them about a mile away from his yard to a rockpile where he releases them.

In the video interview shared by WRAL, Randy said that his parents taught him when he was young not to touch the Copperheads until he learned how to do it safely. That's what has led to this interesting relationship between a Missouri man and the snake kingdom that exists literally in his own backyard. He noted that many of the Copperheads that he takes to the rockpile end up returning to his yard. What is a terrifying thought for most of us is not a problem for Randy Deitz. He's one of the more unique guys you'll find in Missouri. Maybe don't walk across his yard, though.
