Not all of these swimming places in Missouri are unknown, but most are off-the-beaten path and have less crowds than you'll find in some of the more popular locations in the state.

Rocky Falls - Off Route NN, near Eminence, Missouri

You won't find many swimming holes in Missouri in a prettier place than Rocky Falls surrounded by forest in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Waterfalls over pink granite rock? You betcha.

Blue Spring - East of Eminence, Missouri

One of the deepest springs in the United States, it's important to note that you can't swim in Blue Spring itself, but at nearby river access points. If you can't tell, the Eminence, Missouri area is full of great swimming places that have incredibly scenic sights around them.

Akers Ferry Access -  Junction of Missouri Highway K and County Road K-K near Akers in Shannon County

Another beautiful Missouri place that's full of crystal-clear water, gravel bars, and swimming spots that feel far removed from crowded beaches. Lots of boating and picnicking opportunities nearby.

Big Spring - Four miles south of Van Buren, Missouri

Another Missouri spring that's among the largest in the world. Swimming is possible in nearby river access areas. An average of 286–289 million gallons per day flows from this spring.

Falling Spring Mill - Oregon County via a short spur from Missouri Route 19

Ever want to swim at a place that looks like it should be on a postcard? Falling Spring Mill area is it. The waterfall there and the surrounding forest are Instagram-ready.

North Fork Recreation Area - Oregon County where Highway CC meets the North Fork River

The one place in Oregon County where the locals enjoy clear water, deep pools, and excellent summertime swimming.

Slabtown Recreation Area - 8 miles downriver from the Mason Bridge in Texas County

A lesser-known section of the Big Piney River where swimmers can find clear water, bluffs, and fewer crowds.

Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park - Reynolds County off of Route N along Taum Sauk Trail

This is probably the best known of the lesser-known swimming holes in Missouri. Johnson's offers one of the most unique swimming experiences in Missouri, but watch out for the Copperheads in the area. These snakes are not friendly.

Grand Gulf State Park - 4 miles south of Koshkonong, Missouri

Many call this Missouri's "Little Grand Canyon". It has springs, creeks, and secluded water features, but not many big crowds normally.
