This will likely shock many, but I completely understand why Target would do this. Do you know that if you violate a new policy the chain has implemented, it could get you banned from Target stores in Illinois for life?

I have seen several comments from individuals including many on Reddit saying that Target is the one store you do not want to violate any laws in.

Is Target's anti-theft strategy solid or stupid?

There is talk that Target has now implemented a more severe policy against those who steal from their stores and I confirmed through multiple lawyer websites that it's true. If you are caught shoplifting from a Target store in Illinois, you can be banned from all Target stores for life. If you try to enter one of their stores after being caught stealing, they can have you arrested for trespassing.

There are many that claim Target has one of the most advanced forensic labs in the industry when it comes to combatting shoplifting. Pay Path says that some Target anti-theft teams will let thieves leave with smaller thefts while maintaining video and photographs. Once that individual is caught stealing more than $1,000 in goods, they are arrested and all of the thefts are combined into a felony charge.

While these policies seem strict, I have no problem with Target or any other retailer that does what it needs to do to eliminate/reduce theft. The thefts of others makes life more miserable and can drive up prices for the rest of us. Banning thieves for life from their stores seems fair to me.
