To be honest, the opening of Hannibal's bicentennial time capsule earlier this year was a bit of a bust.  Most everything concealed inside was water damaged.  Here's to a better outcome in 2069.

The Hannibal Bicentennial Committee is asking residents for items to seal in a new time capsule that will be opened 50 years from now.  Specifically, the committee is looking for citizens to write letters.  These can be letters to your future self, to your family, to the city--whatever suits your fancy.

For companies, churches, teams and clubs, the Bicentennial committee welcomes rosters or lists of employees/members along with a description and photo of the group.  Other items, including photos of the spring's sandbagging selfies and submissions by Hannibal seventh-graders already have a place in the time capsule.

The time capsule will be donated by Smith Funeral Home and located inside City Hall. All items must be received by 5 p.m. on Oct. 18.  The time capsule will be sealed--and hopefully watertight--in a ceremony at Central Park Oct. 26.
