1 of America’s Top 10 Camping Spots is in the Heart of Illinois

If you want to camp in one of America's best spots, you don't need to travel far in Illinois as one of the newest top 10 is in the heart of the Land of Lincoln.

There are only 10 places in America that were just chosen by website The Dyrt as best places to camp in America for 2024 and one is right in the middle of Illinois (give or take a mile or two). According to their newly-updated list, Sangchris Lake State Park in Illinois is about as good as it gets.

The fact that the camping areas are pretty spread out and spacious is a plus and views like this don't hurt either.

The Dyrt named this Illinois place one of the best camping spots in America saying "Hunters, fishers, hikers and equestrians all have plenty to do here, with easy access to the water and nature trails. It’s also a bird watcher’s paradise". Hard to argue with the variety of things you can do to kick back and relax at one of the two different campgrounds at Sangchris Lake. The fact that it's not that far from Springfield, Illinois means it's relatively close no matter where you are in the state.

Illinois has one of the top 10 camping sites in America. Who would have guessed it? It's always easy to overlook what's right there practically in your own Illinois backyard.
