I cannot imagine how much sadness and depression this one Illinois place contained when it was active. Urban explorers shared one last look inside a former women's prison in Illinois that sat vacant for 12 years and has now been destroyed forever.

When it opened in 1991, it was Illinois only women’s minimum security prison. Now, this Kankakee place is only a memory after it was demolished last year never to be seen again. Before it was torn down to the ground with the wrecking ball, urban explorers took one final trip through these sad halls.

The Daily Journal reported that this Illinois women's prison was closed after massive budget cuts back in 2010. It was empty for a dozen years before it was finally removed from the landscape in Kankakee.
