Fox 2 St. Louis shared the great news that Venom Fest happened in Moscow Mills, Missouri on Saturday and Sunday. They report that Saturday was uneventful, but Sunday was a different deal entirely. The word is their festival featured 200 to 300 snakes, but 1 was missing. That missing snake is noteworthy since the say it's a deadly cobra. Yikes.
It's possible that someone stole this big snake, but there's no way to be sure. The report says that the organizers searched for 6 to 7 hours for this cobra, but have not been successful in locating him/her/it.
The Humane Society has a website dedicated to what you do when you encounter a snake in the wild. The first thing you do is try to identify the type of snake you're dealing with. They don't mention cobras specifically since that's not a common US thing.
Live Science has some helpful facts about cobras including the fact that they have epic night vision and they seek out warm places. That tells me that I'm cancelling that campout down by the river overnight, but that's just me.
You can follow the Venom Fest Facebook page for possible updates on when/if this deadly cobra is located. Until then, step carefully.
