Believe it or not, we are right around the corner from starting up college classes for the fall semester. Do you know these rules that will keep you on top of things this year?

  1. Stock up on pens and notebooks now. Trust me, you don't want to be the person that has to ask for supplies on day one of class. That person is annoying.
  2. If you ride a bike on campus, please don't ride it like those Duke boys from Hazzard county. I don't want to get my foot run over by a bike, and you don't want to crash yours, so let's all just slow down a bit.
  3. CLEAN YOUR ROOM! A clean room allows for better studying habits. Plus, that cute guy or girl from your morning class won't find it very appealing when they have to step over the pizza boxes in your room when they come over to work on the homework.
  4. Respect your roommate's space. Keep your stuff on your side of the room, and don't let laundry or trash overflow to their side. Don't be a slob and throw off the feng shui of the room. It will make you and your roommate happier people.
  5. Don't forget about your parents after they leave during move in day. Call or text them every once in a while to let them know how you are doing. They are curious about how well you are doing away from home. Oh, and asking for money doesn't count as letting them know how you're doing. Write that down.
  6. While I'm talking about communicating about adults, don't forget to communicate with your professors. They can help you out or send you to someone who will be able to tutor you on the subject. Take advantage of those office hours too!
  7. Finally, and most importantly, meet new people! Chances are that you aren't going to school with all of your friends anyway, so get out of your room and talk to people. College is where you will find people with very similar interests to yours, so take advantage of that.

Okay, so there might be about 1,000 more unwritten rules than that, but these are the most important ones to me. As for the rest of them...well college is a time where you will learn a lot about yourself, your school, and the people around you. Trust me, you'll find the rest of the rules in no time!
