A Non-Political Comparison of the Springfield in Missouri vs Ohio
Springfield, Ohio has been in the news a lot lately. I've never been to that Springfield, but I have been to the Springfield in Missouri. Just out of curiosity, I decided to see how the two places compare with no political commentary or references whatsoever.
No, I will not make any snide comments about pets or either of the political parties that have made Springfield, Ohio a battleground. I'm only interested how the Springfield in Ohio compares to the Springfield in Missouri. For a pure numbers comparison, I checked out Numbeo.
On the surface, it looks like Springfield, Missouri is quite a bit more affordable than Springfield, Ohio:
- Rent Prices in Springfield, MO are 18.5% lower than in Springfield, OH
- Restaurant Prices in Springfield, MO are 18.7% lower than in Springfield, OH
- Groceries Prices in Springfield, MO are 7.2% lower than in Springfield, OH
It looks like Springfield, Ohio does have some advantages with some food prices. Milk, Beef and Lettuce are around 15% cheaper. Clothing costs also are much more tolerable in Springfield, Ohio. Utilities and mobile phone costs are way cheaper in Springfield, Missouri though.
One huge difference is the average salary in Springfield, Ohio tends to me almost 43% higher than Springfield, Missouri.
What about crime in the Springfields?
Area Vibes has some interesting notes about this category. Both Springfield, Missouri and Springfield, Ohio get a big fat F for crime rates.
It's interesting that Springfield, Missouri and Springfield, Ohio get almost identical grades in everything else though. Both get an F for employment, a C for schools, and an A for housing. Springfield, Missouri does get the nod with a B+ for amenities while Springfield, Ohio gets an F in that category.
Overall, it's odd that both Springfields have so much in common. Oh, and just in case you're wondering, I did not (and will not) compare how safe both cities are for pets.
