It's been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If that's true, many beholders do not see beauty in Missouri as the state was just ranked among the least desirable in the nation.

I was parsing through an interesting multifaceted study by Homebay recently and noticed an interesting chart. It listed each state's desirability rating. When it comes to Missouri, the state was listed as 50th in both least desirable and least underrated. Ouch.

So what's the problem with Missouri's desirability?

Here's a chart shared by Homebay about what their survey audience considered "desirable".

Based on this, I'm a bit confused about why Missouri didn't fare better. Cost of living generally speaking is low in the state and it's certainly not crowded unless you're in St. Louis or Kansas City. Infrastructure is a bit of a problem in Missouri with old roads and bridges. Bad weather is also probably not a strong suit for the Show Me State. Looking at you, blizzards and tornadoes.

On the good news (and shocking) front, St. Louis was named one of America's most underrated places. That's an upset and a drastic change from the murder capital stories.

The entire Homebay survey is an interesting read about what prospective movers view as beautiful or not.
