Rare Free Live Theater Performance Coming to Hannibal
May we extend a hearty welcome back to the arts in 2021. The pandemic closed the curtains on most everything that enriches our lives through art. Let’s face it, looking at an on-line picture from an art gallery is just not the same as seeing it in person. Live shows just don’t have the same flair when they’re streamed instead of performed before an actual audience.
Bluff City Theater is celebrating its return with a free outdoor performance. The group is putting on two shows, opening May 12 at band stage in Hannibal’s Central Park. The production is of Leonard Nimoy’s “Vincent,” starring Drew Pannebecker in the title role. Though it’s a free show, seating is limited at each performance to 120 audience members. The major sponsor for the performance is the George Riedel Foundation. The foundation was established in 2000 and has been outstanding in financially supporting organizations in Hannibal. In the meantime, Bluff City Theater is trying to raise some money for a digital baby grand piano through a GoFundMe campaign. They want to use the baby grand in their new summer Cabaret Series. It will feature 11 acts over 11 weeks this summer.
According to the Bluff City Theater Facebook page, "Our aim is to explore the written word through stage adaptation. The works chosen for adaptation will not be limited exclusively to literature in the strictest sense, and will span a wide array of genres, including dramas, comedies and musicals."
