Wing Ding This Weekend in Hannibal
The best chicken wings in the tri-state area are back on the menu for 2021. For the first time ever, this year’s Wing Ding is an outdoor party. Restaurants and home cooks will be serving a ton of wings…literally a ton of wings. 2000 pounds of chicken.
The 17th Annual Wing Ding sponsored by the Hannibal Jaycees is set for Friday, May 22 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Tanyard Gardens at 320 S. 3rd Street. Typically, huge crowds pack the old Armory every February for this event. In a wise move, the Jaycees postposed the event and they’re now able to hold it outdoors.
This year’s theme is Salute to Wings! Teams will compete to see who can make the best wings, both the judge’s favorite and the people’s favorite. Besides the wing tasting, the Jaycees put on games throughout the day such as Beer Olympics and the always popular wing eating contest.
You must be 21 or older to enter. The cost is $5 per person. The gate opens at 11 a.m. Wings will be served at 1 p.m. and the games start at 2.
The proceeds from this year’s Wing Ding benefit the Salvation Army. The Hannibal Jaycees put on several events throughout the year, with National Tom Sawyer Days being their flagship event. I don’t think any organization works harder to sponsor entertainment in Hannibal. The members put in untold hours behind the scenes. Their events help the local economy, and they always use the proceeds to support a local organization in need. Thank you Hannibal Jaycees!
