Quincy’s 4th of July Firework’s Postponed to Labor Day Weekend
In what was a lost spring is slowly becoming a lost summer as well with the announcement that this year's Fourth of July Fireworks display in Quincy has been postponed and rescheduled for Sunday, September 6, during the Labor Day weekend this year. Chalk up another event cancellation or postponement thanks to COVID-19 concerns. This disappointment for thousands of potential attendees comes on the heels of recent word that this year's Adams County Fair has also been cancelled.
The difficult decision came after consultations between WGEM (The organizing organization), the Adams County Health Department, the City of Quincy and event sponsors which include Blessing Health System, HyVee, Refreshment Services Pepsi, Adams Fiber, Gardner-Denver and the Knapheide Corporation.
Obviously, with thousands of people converging in the fireworks viewing area at the Illinois Veteran's Home grounds, the concern was keeping everyone socially distant in an attempt to control the spread of Coronavirus and keep everyone safe during this COVID-19 Pandemic. To that concern, the location of the September event will be held at a yet to be disclosed location and NOT at the Illinois Veteran's Home.
It is hoped that by early September things might be more conducive to holding a large outdoor event like the fireworks display which is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. that Sunday night with a rain date of Monday, September 7.
