Q.H.S. Alumni to Say Goodbye to Baldwin School

Quincy High School alumni from near and far will gather at the old high school building (now Baldwin School) on Saturday, June 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., to bid farewell to their alma mater prior to its demolition.

More than 300 former students and teachers have signed up to tour the building, enjoy lunch in the courtyard, and get one last photo on the front steps at 30th and Maine. It’s part of a weekend of events billed as the QHS Super 70’s Bash that will welcome classmates from as far back as 1960 and as recent as 2010.

“Superintendent Ray Webb and the administration have been very supportive of our desire to see the old building again,” says organizer Mike Klingner. “We’ll even get to tour the secret tunnels, which most of us weren’t aware existed.”

Demolition work on parts of Baldwin School is expected to begin in early June as the district prepares for construction of a new elementary school on the site at 30th and Maine. The existing gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium will be retained in the new design.

In addition to the school tour, the Super 70’s Bash includes a party on Friday night at Dick Brothers Brewery, a get-together at Washington Theater on Saturday night in conjunction with Q-Fest, and a farewell event on Sunday at The Dock.

“With Q-Fest, Germanfest, and the Quincy Preserves Garden Tour, it’s a great weekend to be in Quincy,” says Klingner. “The QHS Super 70’s Bash is our way of honoring our former school while enjoying all that Quincy has to offer.”

The QHS Super 70’s Bash is a not-for-profit event organized by classmates from the 1970’s. Any remaining funds after the event will be donated to the QHS Alumni Association.
