I've always been a fan of the underdog. That's why I appreciate places that I consider hidden gems in Missouri. One of my favorites is a part of the state that is canvased by deep springs, waterfalls and also wild horses.

If you're looking for a good day trip or even better a weekend getaway, I submit this to you for consideration. It's a tiny place in Missouri that you rarely hear much about, but that's part of what makes it wonderful.

What is this hidden Missouri gem you speak of?

I present for your consideration Eminence, Missouri. I don't want to sound like I work for their chamber of commerce, but this truly is one of the most beautiful parts of Missouri with tons to do.

Blue Spring is nearby and it's one of the deepest springs in Missouri and America for that matter.

The hike to get there is half the fun. A somewhat narrow trail, but the payoff at the end is worth the walk.

There's also a historic mill that you can adventure in and around.

Eminence, Missouri also has the honor of being one of the few places in the state where you can see a real wild horse herd that frequently makes an appearance.

Eminence, Missouri is in the southern part of the Mark Twain National Forest and is more than worth your time. You won't hear as much about it as Branson, St. Louis or Springfield, but I'd argue that it really does live up to the title of hidden gem.
