It's good to be famous. I've heard that said many times. I've also heard it said that there is no such thing as bad publicity. That being said, I'm pretty sure that Missouri is not happy about the fact that it's becoming quite notorious for stealing cars. Lock those doors and hide your keys.

I noticed this interesting little detail in the new 24/7 Wall St "Crime in Missouri" study. Of all the types of crimes that are on the rise in Missouri, motor vehicle theft is one of the highest. Missouri is the 8th worst state in America for vehicle theft.

Here are the numbers that give you an idea of what's happening in Missouri with stealing cars. The national average is 220 for every 100,000 people. Guess what the rate in Missouri is? 343 out of every 100,000 Missouri residents will have a vehicle stolen. Nicholas Cage would be so proud if he were a Missourian.

I've experienced this myself. It was back in the late 1980's that one of our family had their truck stolen. I went out that same night to look for it and managed by some glitch in The Matrix to find the guy who took it. I called the police and he ended up rolling my uncle's truck in a field trying to run from the law. Fortunately, he was not injured, but the truck was a goner.

I add that story only to show that you don't have to talk to many Missouri residents before you'll come across someone who's had a car or truck stolen. It's one of the things the Show Me State is becoming known for.
