There's a new warning being passed around that infers Missouri should be prepared for a shark attack. Yes, it's hilarious, but there are real reasons why it's not as absurd as it sounds.

This is the infamous US Sharknado Map that's being passed around social media

Notice that Missouri is in the "Low Risk, But Be Prepared" green area. That's funny, but did you know that Missouri really does have a history of shark attacks? There was a "shark attack" that happened in Missouri back in 1996, but it's not what you probably think. Back in 1996 at a boat show in St. Louis, Kathi Peters put her hand into a tank that contained 6 sharks and ended up with 5 puncture holes from their teeth.

There's another reason why shark attacks in Missouri are possible if not likely

It is believed that it is possible that bull sharks can and have swam up the Mississippi River. There was a story back in 1977 from a scientific journal that said fishermen in Alton, Illinois had captured a bull shark. If you're on a boat on a river in Missouri, should you be worried about sharks? Nope. However, when you hear about the possibility of shark attacks in Missouri, know that it's happened and there's history to prove it.
