If you have a soft spot in your heart for big iron horses like I do, I think you'll enjoy a mid-Missouri town that was just chosen as the most charming old train town in the state and it's history with the railroad goes back more than a century and a half.

I saw this interesting list of the 8 most charming old railroad towns in Missouri that was just shared by World Atlas. Of all the many places in Missouri that have been a part of the railroad which is vast, they chose Sedalia as the most charming place of them all. When you consider the central location of Sedalia and the fact that it was a hub for many trains since the mid-1800's, it's not hard to understand why they made that choice. The Katy Depot is a must-visit if you're ever in the Sedalia area.

Sedalia has so much going for it and that's obviously not limited to just trains. One of the best bike trails in America, the Katy Trail, goes through Sedalia, too. There is just so much history in this part of Missouri, it's impossible to cover everything.

I'd like to add that one of my favorite life experiences was riding the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad that is headquartered in Durango, Colorado. There's nothing quite like breathing in the open air with a big iron horse leading you on your journey. That's sadly an era of America that is disappearing. We need to preserve the railroad history like what is in Sedalia. A charming Missouri railroad town it certainly is.
