Huge Fireball Ignites Skies from Missouri to Colorado
The skies over Missouri have been very active lately when it comes to meteors. Even though we're not in an active major meteor shower, a huge fireball was just spotted as it soared from Missouri to Colorado.
This was the sight that appeared in a backyard camera during the early morning hours of Monday, September 15, 2025 around 5:40am
According to the American Meteor Society, this meteor was spotted in Joplin, Missouri and also in towns in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. This was the video of the fireball shared by Karl Flick of Elizabeth, Colorado looking toward the east in the direction of Missouri.

You might recall that Missouri Skies captured another even larger fireball just 3 days ago that was also not believed to be a part of any current known meteor shower. The next expected meteor shower visible over Missouri will be the Draconids which happen in early October. Those meteors are known to be part of the remnants of a comet. In the past, you needed to be looking at the night sky at exactly the right place at the right time to see a shooting star. Now, with so many security and doorbell cameras, we get to see many more of these rogue space rocks than before and I consider that a very good thing.
