If you were looking at the right place at the right time early Sunday morning in Missouri, you were treated to an unexpected treat. A long-track meteor zoomed across the sky and backyard cameras captured the moment it happened.

Dan Bush of Missouri Skies had his backyard cameras in Albany, Missouri pointed to the east and southeast when a fireball appeared around 5:58am Sunday morning, September 14, 2025

Watch Dan's video for yourself and you'll see the meteor from two different perspectives from early Sunday morning. According to the American Meteor Society, they received a dozen reports from others that also saw this fireball.

What meteor shower was this fireball a part of?

My understanding is the answer is none. The Perseid meteor shower peaked in mid-August and was active until September 1. Next up it's the Draconids which begin in October 6 through October 10 according to Earth/Sky.

This bright sky event over Missouri reminded me of the fireball that resulted in a massive meteorite hunt that had a reward attached to it.

If you aren't already subscribed to Missouri Skies on YouTube, I highly recommend it. Dan Bush frequently shares interesting sky sights over Missouri including the Northern Lights on the rare occasions they are visible.
