Missouri’s Rare Corpse Flower Could Bloom Any Day
There's a famous song from Tom Petty that says the waiting is the hardest part. That's likely true and is exactly what is happening now at Missouri's most well-known garden as they await the bloom of a rare corpse flower any day now.
This rare flower is so famous that even Better Homes & Gardens just shared word that the Missouri Botanical Garden is officially on their rare corpse flower bloom watch. Here's what they shared just a day or so ago about their corpse flower named Lucy.
Why are corpse flowers so rare?
The United States Botanical Garden says the corpse flower blooms are so rare because they take so long to bloom and are very vulnerable to destruction of their habitat. They are officially considered endangered since it's believed there are less than 1,000 still in existence. That's one reason why the Missouri Botanical Garden has become a go-to place for corpse flower lovers as they have had no less than 18 bloom there over the decades. That's an incredible number when you understand exactly how rare seeing this flower bloom is. This is video from the event that happened last year.
