Missouri Bootheel Suddenly in Danger Zone for Strong Tornadoes
All of the Midwest needs to pay attention to an incoming storm system all day Wednesday, but the Missouri Bootheel has now been placed in the most likely danger zone that could see strong tornadoes.
The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has just updated their advisory for severe storm development that will happen all day Wednesday with a particular danger Wednesday night. The most recent map places the Bootheel of Missouri right in the middle of the area with the most risk for explosive storm development.
The NOAA alert says "Severe wind gusts, very large hail, and strong tornadoes are possible."
There are more than 4.4 million people now in jeopardy in that red area on the map which is now listed as moderate which is the 2nd highest classification for the NOAA Storm Prediction Center. I would not be surprised if this part of Missouri ends up in the highest level alert as the storms get closer.
When will the worst weather impact Missouri Wednesday?
Expect late afternoon into Wednesday evening to be the most likely time for severe storms. Here are some harrowing words from the Storm Prediction Center:
"This will provide an environment for explosive supercell development...In addition, low-level shear will support the threat for tornadoes."
The National Weather Service recommends you have multiple ways to receive storm warning alerts and that's especially necessary for everyone that lives in or near the Missouri Bootheel. Let's hope some weather variable changes soon to lessen the energy of these storms.
