I have had many friends over the years that call the Missouri Bootheel home and they are known for telling some great stories, some of which might even be true. Early Monday morning, I saw several of them claiming they felt an earthquake in the bottom of the Missouri Bootheel and found out they were right.

Since I was born and raised in Missouri, I need you to show me things and not just tell me things. That's why when I heard whispers of an earthquake late Sunday/early Monday, I immediately checked the USGS earthquake page. I found out my Missouri Bootheel friends were not spinning a fictional tall tale. They DID feel a real earthquake.

According to the USGS, there was a 2.1 magnitude earthquake at the very bottom of the Missouri Bootheel at around 7:52pm Sunday night, November 24.

If you look at the right side of the USGS graphic, you'll see 3 people in Missouri reported feeling it. That would be my 3 Missouri Bootheel friends. Congrats fellas, you're famous.

Stating the obvious here, but a 2.1 earthquake isn't going to do any damage and I doubt a squirrel in the tree directly over the epicenter would have even woke up when it happened. But, it's still another New Madrid quake in what has already been an active November along the southern Missouri border. Let's hope the fault line there isn't preparing for a Thanksgiving surprise.
