New Madrid Fault

I have heard whispers today that some of my friends in the St. Louis, Missouri area think they felt an earthquake, but there have been few official reports. I've been able to confirm they are correct.

Could it be that the New Madrid Fault is waking up from a brief slumber? There was a small tremor in Missouri Friday followed by a much stronger jolt to the south in Arkansas that was felt by many.

It would appear that the New Madrid Fault has decided to end 2024 with an odd quake in the middle of Missouri's Mark Twain National Forest according to the USGS.

It's tradition to spend the last day of the year looking back at what's taken place and that includes earthquakes. The New Madrid Seismic Zone shook Missouri way more than 300 times in 2024.

It wasn't a life-changing jolt, but more of a "Hello and hope you have a Merry Christmas" type of rumble as the New Madrid Fault woke up a few in southern Missouri on Christmas morning.

If you live in Missouri or Illinois and don't already consider this to be a potential reality in your life, you really should consider it.
