The high profile Curtis Lovelace murder trial got underway in Adams County Circuit Court this morning, almost 10 years after he allegedly killed his wife Cory on Valentine’s Day of 2006. His arrest and murder charges didn’t take place until August of 2014. One thing is for certain, the trial will attract national media attention.

This case has become intriguing for the national media since Lovelace is a former Big Ten Football standout and Captain of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini football team. He is also a former Adams County Assistant States Attorney, a former school board President in the Quincy Public School system, a radio sportscaster and teacher at Quincy University.

The prosecutors suspect that Lovelace suffocated his wife.  That suspicion, along with his high profile status in this community, has led to national media interest in the case. NBC's "Dateline" and CBS News "48 Hours" have sent producers to attend some of the early court hearings. People Magazine recently featured the case in their periodical.

Needless to say, activity around the Adams County Courthouse will be elevated for the duration of this trail.
