16 Illinois Places Recorded Sub-Zero Temperatures Wednesday
Admittedly, we're barely halfway through January, but already the coldest temperatures of the winter have just been recorded in Illinois with 16 locations reporting sub-zero temperatures Wednesday morning.
As I was making my way into Illinois early this morning, I already knew it was cold. Having a vehicle that needs gas when it's as cold as it was today was not a joy, but I had no idea just how cold it really was until I saw the National Weather Service in Chicago, Illinois share this remarkable graphic. Behold all of the places in Lincoln Land where sub-zero temperatures were confirmed.
The truth is that's likely not the complete list, just the locations that the National Weather Service wanted to highlight. The bitterly cold weather today is just the beginning of what will be a frigid rollercoaster over the next week. Illinois will see temperatures begin to warm up today with many places seeing highs in the upper 40's if not 50's by Friday. That won't last long though.
By the time the weekend is over, Illinois will see temperatures dive again by next Monday with an arctic blast that might take temperatures below even where they are now.
The good news is we only have 2 more months of winter. The bad news is historically the cold weather doesn't automatically go away in late March either.
